Copyright & DMCA Policy

How to tell us about a copyright problem, and what we do about it.

Last updated

Brewnote (accessible at https://trysix.online) publishes original articles about coffee, written by us. We quote briefly from scientific papers, standards documents and government publications for the purposes of commentary, criticism, scholarship and research, with attribution and a link to the original source in every case. We respect the intellectual property rights of others, and we expect our readers to do the same.

While we make a good-faith effort to publish only our own original content and properly attributed quotations, mistakes are possible — an over-long quotation, an image whose licence we misread, or a table reproduced more closely than fair use permits. If you are a copyright owner (or an agent acting on their behalf) and you believe that material on this Site infringes your copyright, this page explains how to notify us so we can review and, where appropriate, remove it.

We respond to clear and complete notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512.

If you believe your copyrighted work has been copied and made available on this Site in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please send a written notice to our Designated Copyright Agent (contact details below). To be effective under the DMCA, your notice must include substantially all of the following (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)):

  1. Your signature. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work. A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed. If multiple works are involved, you may provide a representative list.
  3. Identification of the infringing material. A description of the material you claim is infringing, together with information reasonably sufficient to let us locate it on our Site — ideally the exact URL(s) of the page(s) in question.
  4. Your contact information. Information reasonably sufficient for us to contact you, such as your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A good-faith statement. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement of accuracy and authority, under penalty of perjury. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Please send your notice to our Designated Agent: Designated Copyright Agent — Brewnote. Email: contact@trysix.online. Please include "DMCA Notice" in the subject line.

What we do when we receive a valid notice

Upon receiving a notice that substantially complies with the DMCA requirements above, we will act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material identified in the notice. Where appropriate, we will make a good-faith effort to notify the person who provided the material (if any) so that they may submit a counter-notification. We may also keep a record of notices we receive.

Because essentially all content on this Site is written and published by us rather than uploaded by third-party users, in most cases we will simply review the claim ourselves and remove or rewrite the material if there is any legitimate doubt.

Counter-notification

If you submitted content that was removed or disabled as a result of a DMCA notice, and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may send us a counter-notification. To be effective under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3), your counter-notification must include substantially the following:

  1. Your signature. A physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the removed material. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled, and the location (URL) at which it appeared before it was removed.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your contact information — your name, address, and telephone number.
  5. A consent-to-jurisdiction statement — a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which Brewnote may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original DMCA notice (or their agent).

Send counter-notifications to the same Designated Agent above. If we receive a valid counter-notification, we may restore the removed material no sooner than 10, and no later than 14, business days after receipt, unless our agent first receives notice that the original complainant has filed a court action seeking to restrain the allegedly infringing activity.

Repeat-infringer policy

In accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i), Brewnote has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the access of users who are found to be repeat infringers of copyright. We may also remove any material and restrict access at our discretion, with or without notice.

Attribution concerns are welcome too

We cite published research heavily, and we would rather over-attribute than under-attribute. If you are an author, publisher or standards body and you believe we have quoted too much of your work, described your findings inaccurately, or failed to credit you properly, we genuinely want to hear from you. Contact us at contact@trysix.online and we will review it in good faith and correct, shorten or remove the material where warranted, even if a formal DMCA notice is not required. Our Editorial Policy explains how we handle corrections generally.

Using our content

The reverse case: our articles, charts and illustrations are our original work and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to quote short passages with attribution and a link. Republishing our articles in whole or in substantial part, or using them to train machine-learning models, requires our written permission — see our Terms of Service.

Trademark and other concerns

This policy addresses copyright. If you have a concern about a trademark, privacy, or other non-copyright matter, please contact us at contact@trysix.online and describe your concern.

Changes to this policy

We may update this DMCA & Copyright Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
